We are me; Mummy, otherwise known as Michelle, Big chickpea; Daddy, otherwise known as Tristan, Medium chickpea; Rowan and Baby chickpea Reuben. This blog was started as I thought I was starting to loose track of all the amazing day to day things my children learn and how we grow as a family. It is also here to keep family and friends up to date with our adventure of moving our life from the UK to Australia.

Rowan

Four years ago tonight, Rowan was born under a full moon.  He nows lies asleep eagerly awaiting his special day tomorrow.

Rowan, my amazing, funny, spirited little soul, you make me laugh every day and I feel so proud to be your mama, to watch you grow and learn and enjoy life every day.
I hope tomorrow is an extra special day for you.

My energy won't come out!

Don't have time to post much at the mo, but I just wanted to keep a note of Rowans little comment last week that made me think, 'I have to treasure that one somewhere'....

After the festival last weekend Rowans asthma reared its ugly head, we managed to keep on top of it, but it really makes him hyper/manic, this uncontrolable, intense energy just takes over him.  Anyway when I suggested we went out for a walk to try and get rid of some of his energy, he replied,

" You can't get rid of my energy mummy, its all tied up in my tummy and won't come out!"

It made me laugh out loud, then got me thinking how amazing and grown up he was for realising that somehting wasn't quite right in himself!

Anyway his breathing is better now, and his wild energy has left for while ( a long while, I hope!)

Giant rhubarb and silly faces!

This is just a bits and bobs post, some silly photos and some odd photos that just don't fit anywhere else!

After my initial bragging about how lovely our veg patch was doing it has drastically turned to plop! However my good old Grandads Rhubarb has taken on gigantic proportions and is taking over the garden!  I really must find a local produce show!  We can't eat it quick enough, it is now so large that 3 stems will make a crumble that lasts two days! ( The one in Rowans right hand weighed 500g!)

My Dad gave me a disk of some photos of the boys that he had taken, some from when they went strawberry picking..
Rowan looking in wonder at all these juicy berries, mmmmmmmm........
Reuben hiding amongst the plants sneaking a few juicy ones in .......
Rowan takes strawberry picking very seriously...

On the disk were also some photos from my Dads birthday, when Rowan and Reuben were in a particulary silly mood!
Heres to silly times :)

We are off to festivals for most of August, so won't be updating this for a while, but I wish you all a lovely summer xx

Fire Station Open Day

It seems like last week was open day week!  After Airday on Wednesday we went to the local fire station open day on Saturday.  I didn't expect much, but I have not stopped talking about it!  It was fab!  It was free and they had 5 fire engines dating from 1972 to present day all open so the kids could just climb on in and play with whatever they liked and there were no queues, apart from the 1972 one as you could ring its bell which was a hot attraction for the kiddies!

The firemen were doing demonstrations and we got to watch the 'rescuing a lady, who is trapped in a car, by cutting the roof off'  Rowan was amazed and had a constant stream of 'why's' and 'what's', he loved it!

And then to top it off they could dress up in firemans clothes!

The only dissapointment was we went looking for the firemans pole only to be told that it had been removed years ago due to health and saftey :(

I much prefered this to Airday, apart from the fact it was free, I was much more prepared to answer Rowans  questions as it was about rescue services and not the armed forces!

Anyway heres some photos:

Air Day

It was Culdrose Air Day yesterday.  Culdrose is the biggest helicopter navy base in Europe and every year they have an open day full of planes, helicopters, flying displays etc etc...  It is a very busy day, but also something that you just do when you grow up in Cornwall, both me and Tristan had many childhood memories of Air Day.

We got there in the middle of the day, saw some loop the loops, some plane walking people doing crazy dangling stunts, some old world war bomber planes, queued up for ages to sit in a helicopter but the boys got bored of queuing so we left that out.
We stayed for a few hours and left before the main super dooper displays, but we didn't have any queues to get out, which was good as we were all a bit tired.
The boys loved it and it didn't rain either!

The boys loved the wind socks!

They also had a sit on a Police motorbike, which they loved.  Rowan turned on the blue flashy lights, how chuffed was he?!
Reuben was too little to reach the flashy light button :(

Just as we were leaving one of the planes flew in the same direction as us, which is Rowans highlight as he thinks the plane was following us to our car!
We stopped to watch a helicopter take off from next to the car park..

Homey stuff

More home activities...
Bread making...

Embroidery....

Rowan has started refusing to have rest time and instead wants to do one-to-one projects, so this week we did a measuring project.  I came across this idea on a home schooling blog, but as I haven't bookmarked which one it was, I have no idea where to find it, so I apologise for not linking the author.
The project was to measure a certain amount of objects using lego.  Rowan loves to measure things but the idea of what a centimetre or inch is means nothing to him, whereas 3 lego blocks is 3 lego blocks.
So we tried to do estimating then measuring, however the estimating stressed him out as he doesn't like to be wrong, so we just measured after the first one.
This is our project
Rowan and his objects
Rowan measuring
His final measurements (and he wote all the numbers himself!)

So, final thoughs of our first kind of educational project.... Rowan loved it, he is now constantly measuring everything in lego and he is also very proud of his number writing.  It really upsets him when he gets things wrong, so for him to write all those numbers without any help is briiliant!

You may have noticed in a couple of the photos, we have painted our dining room orange (well, Terracotta as far as the landlord is concered!).  It is a bit patchy in these photos as I didn't realise it needed more than one coat!  But now it is finished and I love it, its so nice to have a non mangnolia room, I will put up some photos of it soon.

One finished project...
And new wool for the next one (a cardigan for Reuben), lovely autumn colours...

And finally, the sunset tonight filled the living room with a bright pink glow just as I was about to sit down, so I ran out to have a look and grab a photo...
