We are me; Mummy, otherwise known as Michelle, Big chickpea; Daddy, otherwise known as Tristan, Medium chickpea; Rowan and Baby chickpea Reuben. This blog was started as I thought I was starting to loose track of all the amazing day to day things my children learn and how we grow as a family. It is also here to keep family and friends up to date with our adventure of moving our life from the UK to Australia.

Birthdays Galore!

Yesterday was Tristans birthday and today is Reubens, so its been a bit crazy in our house, birthday baskets, cakes, muffins, cards and presents!
I baked Tristan a chocolate berry torte and it was rather scrumptious, mmmmmmm....

This is the breakfast table set up for Reubens birthday with his crown, birthday basket and hobby horse.
Reuben loved his hobby horse (I am very pleased as I have been making it every night for the last week)
We went to a local ice cream farm for Reu's birthday.  There is a little playground, sandpit, piggies, chickens, sneezing horses and of course, ice cream.
Reuben was grunting at this pig!
For his birthday Reuben got a balance bike, we did plan on handing down Rowans but Rowan isn't quite ready for pedals yet, so Reu has a new shiny purple one!
Then it was birthday teatime, as we still have cake from Tris' birthday yesterday, Reu just had some little muffins and will get his penguin cake on the weekend.
Rowan contemplating life over a chocolate muffin!
One very happy 2 year old.

Laugh out Loud!

Sometimes children just make you laugh so much.....

We went wetsuit shopping yesterday for the boys.  They were so chuffed with their new clothes that they had to wear them straight away!  They then spent the whole afternoon pretending to surf in the hallway and then they would stop for a snack.

This is them having a snack of 'lovely salad leaves' before heading off for another surf!

Big Trees, White Pebbles and Stingrays!

Well another busy week flies by, so a bit of a catch up.

We went to Bournemouth last week, as I was attending an NHS breastfeeding conference (I am studying a diploma in breastfeeding counselling).  So we all went away for a couple of days.  On the way up we made a detour to see the Oldest and Largest Yew tree (probably any tree) in England.  It is in a churchyard in Ashbrittle, Devon.  It was horrible weather when we went there, so the photos are not that great but you kind of get an idea of how large it is.  It was amazing, it had 7 stems and was so wide, you could walk in and out of it.  They reckon its over 3000 years old.

Rowan doesn't like to get wet trousers!

Bournemouth was fun. We spent an evening on the beautiful beach, collecting pure white pebbles (something we don't get in Cornwall!).

The following day I went off to be inspired and learn, and the boys had a Daddy Day!  They all had great fun, visiting aquariums (Rowan was well chuffed he had seen a sting ray!), playing mini golf, and going surfing!

Reuben

Reuben Tor, Booboo, The Boo, Rooby Boo, Reubs, Ruby Murray, Booboo Magoogoo!  The boy of many names.  My icke baby boy is 2 today.

You are becoming so grown up and your personality is developing so fast.  I find myself thinking of you as a little baby then I realise that you aren't anymore, like when you are really pleased with yourself that you put a sentence together, in the correct order!  When you put your trousers on with a leg in each hole!

You make us smile everyday, you little crazy whirlwind, your limitless energy is amazing.

And we all LOVE your penguin walk!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY little Reuben xxxxx

May Day and a giant!

On Saturday we went to Rowans preschool for a May Day celebration.  It turned out to be a lovely day which wasn't forecast so that was a pleasant surprise.
The boys wore their mayday crowns and ran around enjoying the wonderful space at the school.  The school has just had a new climbing frame built, which is just fantastic, everyone (adults included) is loving it!

The cake stall was a huge success with Reuben, it was just the right height for him to go and grab just another cake!

Rowan running with a may day wand.
Under the climbing frame there is a little house.

Then the maypole was ready for the dancing, most of the kids are aged under 5, so it was definatly not perfect weaving but beautiful to watch nontheless!

Rowan had originally said he didn't want to join in, but after the first round he picked up a ribbon and off he went!

After the childrens dancing we decided to have a grown ups dance with more intricate dancing/weaving (?!)  It was interesting!  Again not perfect weaving but good fun!

On Sunday we woke to beautiful blue sky but very cold wind.  It was Bolster Day in St Agnes, which is the telling of the legend of the giant Bolster who lived upon the Beacon with his wife.  The giant made his wife carry rocks up and down the beacon all day, everyday so he could throw them off the top at villages nearby.  The villagers had had enough of the giant eating their livestock and throwing rocks at them, that a succession of people tried to beat him, all to no avail.  Until a young girl called Agnes came along and tricked him into letting out his blood, then he died and Agnes was made into a saint and now the village of St Agnes is looked over by her.

Through the village the Giant, Agnes and others parade, they then proceed along the cliffs to Chapel Porth beach where they act out the story.

We made our way to the beach in the early in the afternoon to make sure of a parking spot.  We had a couple of hours to wait, so we went down onto the beach.  Chapel Porth is a lovely beach with lots of caves and rock pools.  Reuben was the first into the pools and was naked within about 5 minutes and Rowan followed soon after.  The wind was so cold down there that people were walking around the beach with full winter gear on, big coats, hats etc, and there were my boys completly naked splashing in freezing cold rock pools!
Reuben did get cold very quickly and then just wanted to cuddle, but Rowan was quite happy pouring and splashing!

Then we heard the drumers coming down the road to signal it was time to get to the top of the cliffs.  Everyone followed the drummers and found a spot to sit.

The charcters came over the cliff and re-enacted the story.  The giant was amazing, a great big puppet, with one man inside and another 4 to hold him up.  To walk around on the cliffs is hard enough let alone when you have a giants body on your head! (my camera battery was almost dead so I couldn't zoom, but you can kind of make out the Giant!)

It was great fun, the kids loved it, both boys sat entranced as they acted the story.  The atmosphere was fantastic, and when the Giant died everyone cheered!  Rowan has been talking about the Giant and poor Mrs Bolster ever since!

What a lovely way to start May, a summer of fun, sun and special times here we come!

Sleeping directions and full moon!

Well the last week has been a bit full on in our house.  The full moon always plays havoc with everyones moods, however this moon seemed to be particularly strong (I don't know if thats the right word but it feels like it).  I was really snappy and tired, Rowan was hyper sensitive and Reuben was even more energetic!  Tris was the only one who appeared to coast through it!

To top it off the boys decided they wanted to sleep together, so we moved their bedroom around and put the beds next to each other, but in the process changed the direction (they went from being just west of north to almost east facing).  Some may say it would make no difference and I didn't give it much thought at the time, until after one week of nightmare bedtimes!  So on Saturday we moved them to the original wall, still together, and so far they have been back to falling asleep easily!  Amazing!

So after the full moon passing, the beds moving and a lovely weekend of May Day fun and sun peace has been restored in our house, Phew!
