This blog was started as I thought I was starting to loose track of all the amazing day to day things my children learn and how we grow as a family. It is also here to keep family and friends up to date with our adventure of moving our life from the UK to Australia.

First camping of the year!

Well, having a new tent and new car we thought its high time we went camping and with the weather suddenly beautiful and summery we packed everything up and headed off to the Lizard.

We decided to go to the beach first.  It was quite windy down on the beach so I am glad the boys had their wetsuits, as they headed straight for the sea!  They loved playing 'run away from the waves', but didn't quite get it, and stood there until the wave had washed over their feet and had gone away, then they would scream and run away!  Very sweet to watch!


Reuben loved the sea and wouldn't keep out of it, making us a bit edgy as it was rather rough and there is a very strong current/rip around this beach.  Rowan was much happier climbing the rocks, running and digging.

 After a while on the beach we headed back up the cliff to the car and went off in search of a campsite.  For the last few years we have always noticed a sign saying 'Wild Camping', So we decided to check it out.

I am not sure what is wild about it, but it was a lovely basic campsite.  2 fields, 2 toilets and a shower.  Perfect!  And you could have fires!

We all slept really well, there is something about sleeping outdoors that makes you sleep so peacefully.  I woke briefly at dawn and listened to the dawn chorus, which was amazing, like an orchestra outside the tent!

The following day was just as sunny, so we hung out at the campsite for the morning.

After packing up we headed off to a freinds house,  They are fortunate enough to live in the gate keepers house of our local country park.  We enjoyed a lovely lunch in the shade then all headed off for a lovely stroll through the woods, ending with a lovely local ice cream.  ( I left the camera in the car!)

By the time we got home, we were all very grubby and tired, but happy nonetheless!

    Oh wow that sea looks beautiful and oh, so much fun camping :-)

    BTW, where did you get the boys' wet suits from. I saw 3/4 length ones but I've not seen full length ones.

    Yeah the sea 'looked' amazing, but was deceptivley freezing!
    We went to a proper surf shop to get their wetsuits.
