We are me; Mummy, otherwise known as Michelle, Big chickpea; Daddy, otherwise known as Tristan, Medium chickpea; Rowan and Baby chickpea Reuben. This blog was started as I thought I was starting to loose track of all the amazing day to day things my children learn and how we grow as a family. It is also here to keep family and friends up to date with our adventure of moving our life from the UK to Australia.

After the rain

So the storm passed and the skies cleared.  We were very lucky as areas to the North, West and South of us are proper flooded.  We didn’t even loose any power.

Tristan worked right through the worst of the storms, clearing roads and power lines of trees and this week they have not stopped either, the clean up is immense.

On the Monday the skies cleared yet we could hear a roaring in the distance,  we thought it may possibly be the sea, so I had a slight panic that we would now get a tsunami!  We didn’t, but at low tide the boys and I went down to see what the beach was looking like and to get out of the house.

There were trees, branches and fences down everywhere.  We made it down to the beach and the roaring was the sea.  I couldn’t see the beach from the end of the road, so we cautiously parked our bikes further up than usual and walked down the boardwalk to the beach.  It was supposed to be low tide, which usually means a big beach.  There was no beach, the tide was still right up to the edge and the beach and dunes were covered in thick, thick foam.  I was a bit hesitant to go any closer but then we noticed loads of families all playing in the foam, so the boys wanted to.  Rowan loved it, Reuben hated it ‘it’s all ikky and itchy!’
So after finding a tap to wash off Reu’s feet we sat on a bench and watched the huge tide swash all the foam in and out and the dark clouds build on the horizon again.

Needless to say we went home as the clouds got closer.  We took the path that goes around the outside of the school grounds on our way home to see how school had faired.  The fields were waterlogged, but that was it.
The school backs onto the dunes (not big sandy dunes like in Cornwall, but kind of mangrovey scrub).  These dunes had always been quite dry, but now are totally flooded and teeming with ibis’s and other water birds and frogs, it was so noisy!

We are now almost a week past the storms, the sun is out and the ground is wet, mixed together it is super humid.  It is back to being 30c, but so humid, you can’t do anything without sweating like mad!  Also I think the wind has blown itself out after the weekend, so we have no breeze at the mo to cool it down, thank god we have a pool though :)
